Anyone have experience with all three of the following: 1. Buddy Lee Aero Speed 2. Buddy Lee Rope Master 3. Ultra Speed Cable Ropes If so, which is your rope of choice and why? I've been using Cable Ropes, but and considering getting another one for the rotation. Thoughts?
I posted this the other day as well, but it was pretty late so I don't think too many saw it. Try 2 today.
Happy Birthday Chloe!! I assume it was "paleo" cake all the way - ha ha.
Chris i have the buddy lee aero speed and it totally rocks it has made a huge difference in my double unders once you get it fit right. I can now do 70 in a row where i would struggle to do 25 before. Alot of that is skill improvement but the rope really helps and they are not that expensive - worth the investment.
OPT, How should one incorporate a running endurance program with the Big Dawg program? Before I started following the program, I was following the Anaerobic Endurance programing by B. Mack @ Crossfit Endurance and C.J. @ Crossfit Invictus. Thanks Craig
folks, try not to find the best rope...use all kinds...as long as you measure overall improvement with the same one over time...you just might be forced to use a different one when it matters sometime... Craig..it depends on where you are in ability to answer that question...there is no answer but only what works best for you...so my suggestion is to try it with ours and then see...my findings have been that people that are really good to elite in this sport need to spend more time on polishing the anaerobic endurance end both lactic and alactic components as opposed to "training" it if that makes sense...so you might want to do this... Run 1 mile test...do only big dawgs...then test again over time...or test, do both programs, test again and see how it goes...cool?
Happy Birthday little Chloe! It looks like she is contemplating how daddy is going to feel if she chooses the chocolate cupdate over the paleo pumkin cookies!
Chris, I have all 3 of these ropes and majority of the time, I use the magic speed rope because of the longer handle and extra weight. The Aero was my very first rope but after trying the longer cheaper handled version, I liked it much better. If you suck at DU's I would not recommend the wire as others have noted, when you miss, you can pay dearly for it.
Buddy Lee's will break on you eventually and often at the worst time. They really need to review the cording material they use for their ropes. I only use them indoors in the winter time and they still break more often than a jump rope should. I've noticed that majority of my breaks happen when I'm on a hard wood gymnasium floor or smooth concrete floor as opposed to the rubber matting.
As James said, diversity is your best tool because come regional time, they may provide the ropes or require only a specific model be used for the competition.
Chris, if price is an issue, I made up a bunch of BL compatible handles for my gym, and i'd be happy to send you a pair. Then you'll just need to order a pair of swivels and the cord from the BL site. The handles are 5.75in. send me your address if interested. oregondunks at yahoo dot com.
New to the site and going to hop in on first wod tomorrow. I read the faq page and am just trying to understand all of the code. As far as yesterday's wod went, none of the exercises could be broken up to mini sets (because it gave a rep range)? but if it had given a fixed number, like "GHD Back Extensions; 20 x 3; rest 180 sec", the 20 reps could be broken up if need be? Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to progress with this site.
As a general statement, I believe most here would say to go for unbroken sets as it trains both mental and physical aspects. As prescribed, however, if no rep range is given, you can break the sets up. Do attempt to make the breaks, pauses, hesitations, whatever, as minimal as possible.
I have a BL aero and like it a lot. I can totally see how it can make one spoiled though. Like Brent said, who knows what they'll have at sectionals/regionals/games.
James, I'm glad you addressed the endurance issue because that is specifically my problem. And by that I mean running. I'm not terrible, but it feels like I need to constantly train it to feel comfortable doing it. But I'm not sure if it's mental or what.
I guess the only way to find out is to experiment and test.
Hello, I am also new to the site and really like it. I have been looking but haven't discovered any info on the Big Dawgs and how it seems to be more strength oriented (that's my impression). are these wod's supposed to be in conjunction with other wod's or are they stand alone? Not that I need more, but I'm just wondering if OPT set these up as an adjunct or stand alone workout, I would do more if I had to. thanks, Tom
OPT, Just finished the Nutrition 101 Dvd.. Awesome info, very well done and has really opened my eyes on terms of food absorption. I was wondering if there was any way I could get my hands on the papers everyone had infront of them that had the case studies and a breakdown of what you do daily for as far as food goes.. Thanks for all you have done for all of us as far as this prog. goes.. its second to none and the same can be said on your nutrition info! -crossfit redline
N.H., then i'd suggest training the run as needed...just DO NOT tip into the pain mode for chance of not allowing recovery of the CNS for another wod...as i mentioned, polish it and see if it helps...it also depends on what you think poor running is...I can say that it is more about the engine than it is the form, and then when you make the engine run smooth and efficient, wowsa...get my drift?
The engine analogy makes a lot of sense to me. Figuring out exactly how to make mine run (pun intended) smoothly is definitely the goal. I just lose track of what I'm doing sometimes -- and get all worked up about getting everything perfect. I have a strong habit of trying to focus on too much at once.
I appreciate the help. And I'll be posting here consistently from now on.
Thanks to James and the others for answering my question regarding how to incorporate other sports (hockey) and recovery into this programming. I was already impressed by the programming, by the quality of this site, and by this community, but having my question answered so quickly and so thoroughly was totally impressive and appreciated.
On a more "not so happy with myself" note, apparently weekend-long bachelor parties in Quebec city lead to even rougher workouts than 2-hour hockey sessions! No more weddings for a while so I should be good at least until the summer!
Made up part 1 of this WOD since I missed it on Saturday.
A. 2 ladders + 3 steps + 3 reps (felt heavy) B. 95 lbs 6, 6, 6 (felt good) C. 20,20,20,20,20 (last few of the last set were getting tough)
I'll make up Part 2 some time this week on one of the other single days once I'm more rested.
cute kid...happy birthday!

ReplyDeleteYes, you are correct.

That's my understanding, anyways.
Chloe, take the cup cake!!!
