Prepare

Set your goals based not on what you know you can do.
Set your goals based on what you're most passionate about.

There are capabilities you have that you don't yet know you have.
Meaningful challenges will awaken those capabilities and get them working for you.

  1. It's almost like you know what I need to hear....every time I need to hear it!
One of the MANY reasons I've stuck around the last 5.5 years and will continue to do so for many to come......

  4. My experience at the Great basin Qualifiers last year was this, exactly.

I set my goal to compete in the non-rx'd division. Then something awoke in me and I decided that, even though I had *never* snatched 135 for more than a single, or deadlifted 275 for more than 5 reps, or done 35 handstand pushups in less than 10 minutes... that I could, for whatever reason, do it in this challenge.

In less than 7 minutes - the time it took me to complete 15 power snatch at 135 and 4 sand bag runs - I learned more about myself than after 4 years of training.

So glad to have meaningful challenges like this weekend's Big Dawgs event.

  5. Didn't want to clutter up the scores post but wanted to give an update: 2 weeks out from hurting the ankle and lots of rest and ice later things are pretty good - finally able to walk w/o pain. Running and jumping still iffy but really wanted to do the comp so I suited up w/ my brace this morning and went out to try it but wind was so non-existent I didn't even really get to test it. Apparently 2 weeks makes a difference...I'd been so used to recovering from metcons instantaneously that I forgot what it was like to feel totally out of shape....so chalk me up with a big DNF.

I am not sure if I will be back next cycle or do a strength cycle instead to give the ankle time to fully recover. Regardless, a big thank you to coach and everyone for pushing me in the last cycle and best luck to all the competitors today. WOOOOOF!
