The question I guess is what is a good dosage on the fish oil. Robb Wolf recommends .5-1.0g per 10#'s bw. However the high end is for sick individuals. Once our BF is single digit, eating lots of organic veggies, and at least some of our meat is from wild/pastured sources, what would a good dose be? Personally, I am taking about 4g a day epa/dha at 160#'s BW. This is half of the low end from Robb's range. I figure wild caught salmon, grass fed beef, a good dose of coconut milk/oil and pretty healthy overall diet--I think, and that should be good. But I don't KNOW, ya know? Any thoughts?
Oh, and one other question that maybe someone has thoughts on. Apparently Dr. Cordain recommends against cod liver oil based on the Vit A being a competitive inhibitor to Vit D. Yams/carrots and even butternut squash are loaded with Vit A. Does this present any concerns? I'm guessing no, but while on the topic...
One year ago today the blog (as we know it) started . There were 17 comments that day. There is a picture of the names on a white board in the first week. Thanks James for all your work to make us better. I knew I was in the right place (OPT) for working out when on Christmas day I was working out at 5:30 am and when I got there other people were already working out
Also if you are newer to the blog there is some interesting reading posted on the early days of the blog. Check it out.
Great post Gord, awesome to look back and see what we have learned as individuals and as a group. Going back is educational for us all. Makes me excited for what the future holds for us. Seems limitless.
I remember that day when he posted a picture of the whiteboard. It's amazing how such a simple thing like that made you feel so proud to be a dawg!
The only reason I heard about this is because I've been following Geoff's and James's posts on Crossfit since 2006 and one day he posted something like, I'll be gone for a while, going to train OPT exclusively. Blam, my training changed forever in a good way from that day forth.
Surry, I use Krill Oil from Dr Mercola. I only take it when on the road (1pill per day of flying). When I fly there are a number of stressors that can be inflicted on me (changing time zones, cosmic radiation, Sleep interuptions etc). While at home, I do not take any. Nothing scientific to back it up. Just noticing how I feel and where/when I feel it.
i posted my results on the following day. after going through, i see the futility of posting on the following day as it's difficult to go back and find out what you did.
regretably, i am a little disappointed with the 2010 CF games schedule. most likely i will be unable to get off of work for the sectionals/regionals and such... was kind of banking on trying to video qualify, however this is only for deployed and such. i will, however, do what i can and change call with whomever i need to as time will allow... i suppose there isn't much of a point to what i'm saying, but just thought i'd pass along and share my thoughts, feelings and situation for those that are interested (april and rory)...
as much as this blog has changed over the course of the year, it'll be exciting to see the developments that are yet to come!...
Unit, i'll come and work for you if you need, and i'm sure i'd find 20 others on here who'd do the same so you can compete. You HAVE TO find a way, you've been challenging others on here, that is mine to you. James
Peskin doesn't differentiate between extremely perishable fish oil (& all the mercury & excess vit A) & Krill oil which I take daily. I will be buying from OPT now that he is carrying it. I don't see a reason to change my strategy. Krill oil will not oxidize or become rancid like fish oil. Note that krill oil doesn't contain Vit D so you still need to supplement with D.
Congrat's on the one year for the Dawgs. Thanks for telling us Gord.
James; I don't say thanks nearly enough...I think the years speak volumes
Unit-We (not just Rory and April) all be disappointed if you are unable to compete. You work hard and your scores push us to work harder. You owe it to yourself to do everything you can to be there. You got a few months start working on a plan.
Want to say thanks for hosting such a wicked community on your blog and for providing us with your knowledge, programming expertise and for giving us a direction/goal.
Also want to throw a bone to all the Big Dawgs for creating an atmosphere that requires me to push and exceed all expectations I have for myself.
Congratulations on the one year anniversary. The dynamics within the Crossfit/OPT community are unlike anything and I can see that the bonds run deep.
Unit - I'm with Geoff, April, James, and Rory (who I feel confident speaking for here). I'll find myself a plane ticket to Kansas City and drag you to the sectionals in your scrubs if that's what it takes.
I just read through yesterday's posts and it seems I'm not the only one with lower back tightness. Any thoughts from the others with this?
Gord, Thanks for bringing the 1 year anniversary to the blog to our attention. What are year it has been. James, your program has made us all better! Thanks again!! Unit, the day you came on board, you made everyone up the ante. You need to find a way!!
Your passion and leadership to makes things better is precisely what makes us better.
Unit,
I've said it before, you are an asset to this community and a leader among dawgs. Whether or not you make it to the games, you have the support of your brothers.

Happy 1st year!
What brand of fish oil do you use? I buy the NOW Omega 3 1000mg from popeyes. Wonder if there is a better one?

That is basically the day I decided to persue CrossFit as a sport. I'm happy I made that decision! Thanks James!

That video of Hannah is so funny. Brogan laughed at it.
